Silver Threepence of George IV (1822)
Diameter: 16.26mm
Weight: 1.4138g
Fineness: .925 Silver, .075 Copper
Silver Content: 0.0420 oz
Obv: Laureated head of George IV left (Small Head)
Rev: Crowned value within wreath
date 3
The head upon the threepence struck in 1822 is smaller than it is on the threepence of all the other dates. This is because the first die broke, and as there was not time to engrave another die with the proper sized head, one was made from the punch of the twopence.
