Wireless Light won't turn on on iPAQ or HP 5500 Series Pocket PC

The Problem: You have an HP or IPAQ 5500, 5550, 5555 etc series Pocket PC and the wireless light won't come on when you turn on the WAN. A simple soft reset has not solved the problem.

A Possible Solution: You may need to perform what I call a moderate reset. This is a bit stronger than a soft reset but should not erase the memory. However, it is advised that you backup your unit before you do this, just in case. Author assumes no liability for any loss of files that may occur. I have performed this operation several times and have never reset the memory.

  1. Make sure your files are backed up. This process does not do a hard reset, but it is always better to be safe than sorry!
  2. Perform a soft reset (soft reset is simply pressing the stylus into the reset button at the base of the unit on the right side)
  3. Turn the unit off
  4. Remove the battery (in back)
  5. Perform 5 or 6 soft resets
  6. Replace the battery
  7. Do a soft reset
  8. Now turn on the wireless and the light should turn on.
