Performing a Hard Reset on an iPAQ 3800, 3900, or 5500 Series Pocket PC

Warning: Performing a hard reset will cause the device to lose ALL data and programs stored on it. Data in the iPAQ File Store should be unaffected by the reset, but main memory data and programs will be erased
  1. Remove expansion packs and memory card. The picture below shows the iPAQ in a NexiPak expansion pack. This should be removed before performing the hard reset.
  2. Turn the iPAQ on
  3. Press and hold the buttons farthest to the right and to the left (on the 5xxx series, these are the Calendar and iTask buttons.
  4. Keeping the above buttons pressed, push the stylus into the soft-reset button on the right side of the base of the unit.

  5. Keep the stylus pressing the soft-reset button until the screen completely fades or goes black.
  6. Plug the device in and do a soft-reset. (simply push the stylus into the reset hole on the bottom without pressing any of the buttons.)
  7. Press the ON button and the device will come up in a factory state (except for the File Store)
