iPaq 5500 Won't Turn On?

You press the on button of your iPaq 5500 series Pocket PC but it will not turn on, even after you have tried to charge it. When this happens, the most likely problem is that the battery has completely drained. Unfortunately, this means that the Pocket PC has been reset to it's factory condition and everything you have stored on it has likely been deleted. The good news is that there IS a way to at least turn the Pocket PC back on so that you can restore your files from backup. You DO back up your files, right?

The following instructions have worked for all 5000 series iPaqs and probably will for the many of the others. The first thing to do is put the iPaq in it's cradle and plug the cradle into the wall. The first thing you'll probably notice is that you do not see the charge light blinking. Don't be concerned about this. Let the iPaq stay in the cradle for the normal time that it takes to charge it. I usually let it sit in there overnight.

If you have your iPaq in a Nexipak Expansion Pack, look at the light on the back of it and you will see that that is blinking.

When the unit has been in the cradle charging for an hour, you may wish to try to see if you can turn it on. Take the iPaq out of the cradle and press the on button. It MAY turn on right at this point though usually it will not. Retrieve the stylus and press it into the reset button found on the bottom of the unit (indicated by the blue arrow in the photo). Do this three or four times. Then, press the on button. The unit should turn on at this point.

Place the iPaq back into its cradle and let it complete charging. You will see now that the light on the top right of the unit is blinking. Let it charge until it is solid. If you have the iPaq in a Nexipak, let it charge until the lights for both are solid.
